AI is advancing at an incredible pace, even simulating various human sensory functions. However, two of the most challenging functions remain smell and taste. Computers currently cannot sense scents as keenly as humans, nor can they experience the delicious flavors of exotic cuisines as we do.
However, this does not mean that scientists have stopped researching in this field. In fact, numerous scientists and researchers are actively developing biochemical technologies for digital smell and taste, hoping to break through this technical bottleneck. Once a breakthrough is achieved, it will be a revolutionary technological achievement.
Imagine if computers could simulate human olfactory functions; we could then perform digital analysis, reproduction, and transmission of scents. This would mean we could smell perfumes from afar via the internet, sense the enticing aromas drifting from an exotic kitchen, or even recreate and taste the flavors of childhood candies and snacks.
At the California startup Tastry, founder Katerina Axelsson previously conducted detailed analyses of wine samples, categorizing them into different wine types and flavor profiles. She performed rigorous observations and recordings of wine aromas, textures, and colors. Subsequently, she used machine learning methods to organize these records into a vast and diverse database, comparing them with other wines. This database became one of Tastry's core assets.
Equipped with a powerful database, Tastry launched an innovative application called BottleBird in 2019. This app matches wine products to users based on their personal preferences. In just 30 seconds, users can input their taste preferences—such as a liking for tobacco, black coffee, bananas, or mushrooms. The BottleBird app then recommends the most suitable wines for the user based on these preferences. These recommendations include the wine's price range, variety, suitable occasions, and food pairing suggestions. This makes choosing the right bottle of wine effortless.
The BottleBird app not only simplifies the wine selection process but also allows users to explore more possibilities within the world of wine. It possesses a massive database and powerful algorithms that provide accurate and personalized recommendations based on the user's taste preferences and needs. The machine learning technology behind the entire system allows the app to continuously learn and evolve, constantly improving its accuracy and precision. This brings convenience and utility to users while allowing them to enjoy more delicious and appropriate wines.
Furthermore, the BottleBird app provides users with more knowledge and information about wine. Users can use the app to look up relevant information on various wines, such as origin, brewing methods, grape varieties, and more. This helps users better understand the characteristics and qualities of different wines, enhancing their wine taste and appreciation skills. Therefore, the BottleBird app is not just a convenient tool, but also a colorful guide to the wine world.
From now on, users no longer need to spend a significant amount of time and effort tasting various wines to find the flavor that suits them best. By simply downloading and using this application on their mobile phones, users can easily find the wines they like and learn more about them.
After multiple trials, Katerina Axelsson and her team found that the accuracy of Tastry's wine recommendations is remarkably high, reaching 80-93%. This is an impressive achievement, especially considering the vast variety of wines. Tastry can recommend wines that best match individual preferences and tastes.
Tastry analyzes tens of millions of bottles of wine a year, and its database continues to grow in size and commercial value. This database is highly valuable for retailers and wineries, as they can use this data to more accurately understand consumer preferences and trends. This is particularly important for retailers, who can adjust their inventory and promotional strategies based on consumer preferences to provide a better shopping experience. Wineries can also use this data to execute more precise product launches and marketing campaigns, making their products more popular.
