Google Pixel 8 and Pixel Watch 2 Debut in Taiwan! Taiwan Team Showcases AI Camera and Self-Developed Chip Highlights

Google has announced the launch of the first Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones in Taiwan, alongside the second-generation Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch. Elmer Peng, VP of Hardware at Google, stated that the Taiwan hardware R&D team has continued to grow in recent years, attracting more talent from Taiwan and overseas to provide diverse products and services through multinational collaboration. The Pixel 8 series features the new Tensor G3 processor, integrating Google AI technology to offer brand-new photography capabilities. The next-generation Pixel Watch 2 provides more Google smart services and Fitbit health functions, offering more accurate heart rate monitoring and longer battery life to meet various scenarios from daily life to fitness training. Here are the highlights of the new products:

The brand-new Tensor G3 chip provides the Pixel 8 series with more powerful performance, making it even more outstanding in processing images and voice. This chip utilizes advanced machine learning technology to efficiently run Google's machine learning models, providing more accurate and intelligent features. It can execute complex software computing tasks more efficiently—such as image processing and voice recognition—providing users with a faster and smoother experience. The Tensor G3 chip in the Pixel 8 series not only allows users to enjoy high-definition video but also provides faster operations for daily tasks. This high-efficiency chip makes the Pixel 8 series a powerful mobile device capable of handling various complex tasks and applications.

The Pixel 8 Pro features a temperature sensor that can scan objects to quickly obtain temperature information. This series includes Face Unlock, meeting the highest level of Android biometric security standards, allowing it to be used for identity verification and payments within applications. Equipped with the Google Tensor G3 and Titan M2 security chips, it features multiple layers of protection and uses the built-in Google One VPN service to protect online security. It offers up to 7 years of software updates, including operating system updates, feature drops, and security updates.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro introduce flat displays and narrower bezels, designed to provide users with a more immersive browsing experience. Additionally, the Pixel 8 series adopts the new Actua display, the brightest screen in Pixel history, capable of presenting clearer images even when browsing HDR photos or high-definition video content under intense sunlight. In terms of size, the Pixel 8 features a 6.2-inch screen with sharper display effects, paired with a matte aluminum frame and polished glass back. The Pixel 8 Pro features a 6.7-inch screen with new intelligent adjustment functions designed for a smooth and comfortable display, with an exterior featuring a polished aluminum frame and matte glass back.

Google stated during the Taiwan launch event that half of the talent in the Google Camera team comes from Taiwan. This time, the Pixel 8 series camera introduces the Tensor G3 chip in computational power, merging with Google AI technology to bring users a brand-new AI camera experience. Furthermore, the Pixel 8 series features a fully upgraded camera system with superior light sensitivity, allowing users to capture more detail and clearer images. Additionally, both phones are equipped with ultra-wide-angle lenses that support macro focus, helping users maintain photo clarity when shooting objects at close range.

They also upgraded the Pixel Watch 2. The newly launched hardware and software bring users more accurate heart rate measurement functions, and the battery can last the entire day. The watch uses the brand-new Wear OS 4 interface, allowing various Google services to be used on the wrist, including Google Maps and Google Wallet, while also enabling users to reply to Gmail, check Google Calendar, or wake up Google Assistant via voice to issue commands. Through the brand-new processor and chipset, the Pixel Watch 2 brings a smoother operating experience and longer battery life—just 30 minutes of charging provides up to 12 hours of use.
