A 2023 report released by cybersecurity vendor Check Point indicates an explosive growth in cybercrime activities. Through analysis, they found that the global frequency of cyberattacks averaged 1200 per week, an increase of 3% compared to the previous year. More concerning, however, is that Taiwan has become one of the most attacked regions. In the first three quarters of this year, organizations in Taiwan faced an average of 1509 cyberattacks per week, the highest globally, representing a 2% increase compared to the same period last year.
This report is alarming because the high frequency of cybercrime attacks poses significant risks to the information security of individuals and organizations. Cyberattacks come in various forms, including malware, email phishing, and ransomware. Hackers frequently employ constantly evolving techniques and methods to infiltrate corporate and personal network systems, subsequently stealing confidential information, disrupting network operations, or demanding ransoms.
According to the report, the increasing trend of cybercrime can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the widespread adoption of the internet has enabled more people to connect to networks worldwide, providing hackers with more targets and opportunities. Secondly, the development of the digital economy has led many organizations and individuals to conduct business online, increasing their risk of attacks. Additionally, the continuous evolution of cyberattack methods and the professionalization of criminal gangs make them more challenging to combat.
Given this situation, governments, businesses, and individuals must take proactive measures to protect their network security. Various methods can be employed to strengthen cybersecurity against different threats, such as enhancing organizational information security measures, promoting security awareness and training, and regularly updating firewalls and antivirus software. Furthermore, international cooperation and information sharing are crucial in responding to cybercrime. Only through concerted efforts can we better defend against these growing and evolving threats and ensure our network security.
