Metropolis developed Orion, a computer vision system that integrates AI cameras. When a vehicle enters the parking lot, the system can directly scan the license plate for registration. When the vehicle leaves, the system automatically links to the bank account tied to the App for payment, eliminating the need to stop or use a payment machine.
Metropolis offers services to parking lot managers for remote control of hardware such as gates and lighting, integrating IoT technology. Simultaneously, it provides parking lot owners with financial reports and monthly utilization data, enabling owners to understand the operational status of their parking facilities. As of June 2022, Metropolis has provided services to 600 parking lots.
In recent years, Metropolis has increased its investment in business analytics, sales, and marketing. To achieve this goal, Metropolis partnered with Uber to launch Uber Park. By leveraging the platform's mobility data, Metropolis provides parking lot personnel with information regarding staffing, pricing, and maintenance. Additionally, Metropolis has collaborated with supermarkets, coffee shops, and other businesses to conduct in-App marketing campaigns.
Metropolis's investment in business analytics helps the company better understand market demand and consumer behavior. Through data analysis and interpretation, Metropolis can predict potential sales opportunities and formulate corresponding sales strategies, thereby increasing sales. Furthermore, Metropolis enhances brand awareness and influence through investments in marketing activities.
Uber Park, launched in partnership with Uber, is an innovative solution from Metropolis. By utilizing Uber's mobility data, Metropolis can provide real-time information and guidance to parking lot personnel to optimize operational efficiency. This includes staffing information, which helps parking lot managers rationally arrange employee work hours and workloads. Simultaneously, by analyzing passenger travel demand and parking preferences, Metropolis can also formulate reasonable pricing strategies for parking lots to increase their revenue.
In fact, Taipei City has recently begun implementing similar technological applications. To address parking issues, a "High-Mounted Camera Smart Parking Ticketing Service" trial was launched for 16 on-street parking spaces on Chaozhou Street. The equipment for this service features image recognition and vehicle sensing capabilities, accurately detecting vehicle entry and exit, and automatically issuing tickets. Additionally, it provides real-time parking space availability information, which the public can query on the "Taipei Smart Parking" website.
This smart parking service simplifies operations for the public when parking, eliminating the need to manually fill out parking tickets or search for parking spaces. Users simply park their vehicle in the designated space, and the system automatically recognizes the license plate and issues the corresponding parking ticket. This series of automated operations significantly saves the public's time and effort.
Furthermore, the public can also use the "pay.taipei" smart payment system to pay parking fees. After parking in a designated space, users simply use a mobile application to complete the payment, eliminating the need to walk to a payment counter and wait in line, making it convenient and fast. The smart payment functionality of this system is also a new technology introduced by the Taipei City Government to enhance the quality of life for its citizens, aiming to provide more convenient services.
With the continuous development of technology, smart parking services will be applied in more locations. Taipei City's success story undoubtedly provides valuable insights and references for other cities. Through technologies such as image recognition and vehicle sensing, urban parking management will become more efficient and intelligent, offering citizens a more convenient parking experience.
