S-Mark certification is Argentina's mandatory local safety mark. It applies to most products and is enforced for low-voltage equipment (below 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC); all products other than Class III equipment are subject to mandatory certification. In addition, S-Mark certification entails annual market surveillance and annual factory inspections, as well as an annual fee, calculated according to methods that vary by certification body. Under Resolution 92/98, which took effect in 1998, Argentina enforces mandatory S-Mark certification for electrical and electronic equipment with input voltages in the range of 50–1,000 V AC or 50–1,500 V DC. The Resolution divides products into four groups, phased in from 2001; since August 1, 2004, all products must obtain S-Mark certification before entering the Argentine market.
